King Bee was founded by All Star Fresh in the Netherlands in 1989. Its members, All Star Fresh, Bc Boy and MC Pryme, received international success with some amazing tunes.
King Bee speedily entered the national and international charts (22 countries, worldwide) with their Hip Hop classics ‘Back by Dope Demand’ and ‘Must Bee the Music’ with lead singer Michele.
Before they released ‘Back by Dope Demand’, another single: ‘Let’s Take it Home’, became a club hit in Germany.
King Bee started their worldwide tour, sharing the stage with other Hip Hop royalty. ‘Back By Dope Demand’ became a Top10 hit single worldwide. As a result, King Bee was asked to perform in Holland as a support act for Madonna’s ‘Blond Ambition’ tour.
During this time they collaborated with the producers of SNAP (well known from their hit single: ‘I Got the Power’) to make a remix of Clubland Quartz feat. SNAP, introducing King Bee’s single ‘Let’s get Busy’, leading to a No.1 hit on the Club Billboard – chart (USA).
The band received the Stanton DJ Award In 1990 and the Edison for best new Hip Hop/Dance act in 1991 ( http://www.edisons.nl/pop?s=King+Bee&post_type=any ). Their debut album ‘Royal Jelly’ was released in 1991. It was deemed controversial, because they were the first Dutch Hip Hop act to cross over to commercial dance. King Bee was recognized to be pioneers in their genre.
Releases like ‘Cold Slammin’, with the Ultramagnetic MC’s and ‘Get Ready’ with Spyte and Parol followed.
DJ All Star Fresh
A talented DJ and Producer with great amount of experience. His turntablism skills (DMC World Championships) and musical expertise soon made him a much respected DJ and producer among his peers all around the world.
All Star Fresh started his career in 1979 and immediately granted him with international fame. His unique skillset made him an established and well respected name around the world. After performing in major clubs in Amsterdam and across Europe, he aspired a new challenge. All Star Fresh won the Dutch Mixing Championships (DMC) in 1988 and he was invited to The World Mix Championships at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He was rewarded with a 3rd place in a fierce competition.
Dave Funkenklein (jury DMC) invited him to enter the Lion’s Den in New York. All Star Fresh made history in the Big Apple by being the first non-American to fly into the finals of The World Supremacy Battle of DJ’s. This time he was rewarded a prestigious second place. The impression he made that year, resulted in many invitations to perform with world renowned artists, like Public Enemy, Stetsasonic, Ice -T and Ultra Magnetic MCs.
All Star Fresh, a producer and recording artist, is best known as the founder of KING BEE. By producing ‘Back By Dope Demand’, he scored one of the biggest hip hop
hits. (selling over 2.4 million copies)and became a Top 3 hit. Not only did he work on projects like King Bee and Capella, he was also featuring famous production teams like Snap (well known from their hit single: ‘I Got the Power’).
This teamwork resulted in producing the single ‘Lets Get Busy’ (Clubland Quarts feat Snap introducing King Bee). This record became a number 1 hit in the Billboard Dance Charts (USA). Other productions were ‘Deepzone – It’s Gonna Be All right’, ‘Kellee – My Love’, ‘Ty Holden – You’re My Inspiration’ and ‘His Royal Freshness – They Don’t Understand’
All Star Fresh has never left the music industry and can still be listened to on various radio shows. DJ-sets that vary from Dance Classics to Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Latin – House, Tribal and Urban tunes.
MC Pryme
PRYME started his professional musical career in 1989 as a rapper for King Bee,. After some time Pryme leaves King Bee, he was asked by Amsterdam based record company Fifth World, to become the front-man for the live House formation Sonic Surfers.
Together with DJ Marcello, he writes and composes the Club House track ‘Beat of Zen’, giving him the credibility to take on the House scene. Pryme spends his time touring around the world, solo and with the band. This time gives him a chance to try out new material and freestyle to any kind of music… A new MC is born.
While performing in Toronto (Canada), he starts writing the song ‘Take me up’ with the help, of Jocelyn Brown and producers Brook & Trans. This song enters the UK top 10 chart in 19xx and Jocelyn Brown performs live on the Sonic Surfers tour. Pryme returns the favour, touring with Jocelyn whilst she promotes her ‘Greatest Hits’ album.
After a number of successful gigs as an MC, Pryme decides to go solo. He ventures into a solo project with record company RCA, making ‘No Players Allowed’ entering the National charts. Some time passes by and Pryme turns away from the recording Industry to focus on his career as an MC.
With his mystical presence, raw vocals and hypnotic flow, Pryme soon became an MC ‘force’ to be reckoned with, favoured by many deejays and voted best MC three years in a row (UK)
To this day, he is still hosting and performing at clubs, like Pacha and El Divino (Spain), iT, Matrixx, Sinners and Powerzone (Netherlands), Double Six (Indonesia) He may have produced one of your favourite songs, from R&B to Hip Hop, Electro and Techno to Chunky,Progressive, Deep and Club House. Even from Classics to the latest ‘thing’ in Music. MC Pryme is now one of the initiators of ‘History of Rap’. Together with DJ Fullscale, he leads an act that brings a blend of the best Hip Hop, Rap and R&B tracks of the last decades. And he is still performing with All Star Fresh with a 30 min tape act or full hour DJ sound system set.
